MR MATTHEW STREET MBChB; MMSc (First Class Honours), FRACS Orthopaedics Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at Tauranga Public Hospital and Grace Hospital Matthew is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with advanced training in foot and ankle surgery, and complex hip and knee replacement, including revision surgery. Matthew graduated from Auckland Medical School with his MBChB in 2010. He has been involved in multiple areas of research from an early stage, culminating in a Masters of Medical Science in 2015. Matthew has always had a passion for Orthopaedics, having trained throughout New Zealand to gain his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Following this, he took up a fellowship of high-volume hip and knee replacement surgery at the University of British Columbia Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. He expanded his sub-specialty experience with a fellowship of foot and ankle reconstruction at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, Canada. Matthew returned to the Bay of Plenty to offer his knowledge and experience to improve function and quality of life for his patients. He takes time to listen to patients’ concerns and goals and discuss different solutions. He explains why a certain treatment is preferred to suit their circumstances, aiming to relieve them of pain and to improve their mobility. Teaching and mentoring orthopaedic registrars are two of Matthew’s special interests and he takes pleasure in their progress within their professional careers. He carries out research in his sub-specialty fields, publishing his findings in various medical periodicals. Matthew is a member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the New Zealand Foot and Ankle Society.
