General, laparoscopic and thyroid surgeon at Grace Hospital, Tauranga, and Bay of Plenty District Health Board. Jacques is a New Zealand-trained general surgeon with subspecialty training in thyroid and parathyroid diseases. In addition, he is the Trauma Medical Director for the Bay of Plenty DHB and performs a wide-range of general surgical procedures, including gallbladder, hernia, intestinal and skin surgery. He increasingly performs urgent lymph node biopsies for the haematology and oncology service at Tauranga Hospital. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Cape Town and the world-famous Grootte Schuur Hospital, site of the world’s first heart transplant in 1967. Working in South Africa for a number of years, he gained experience in emergency and trauma surgery, before moving to New Zealand in 2007. When he is not working or exercising, you’ll find him on the beach with his family and disobedient cavoodle, Oscar, or running up the Mount, just because it’s there.
