Tristan de Chalain has a passion for carrying out facial restoration to correct damage from skin cancer, injury and ageing. As well as facial restoration, his particular interests within his plastic surgery practice include paediatric plastic surgery, complex reconstructions and body contouring. He also undertakes breast and hand surgery.
Every year, through Operation Restore Hope NZ, he is able to treat children in the Philippines to correct cleft lip and palate conditions, who would otherwise remain untreated. He also takes the opportunity to offer his time and expertise at the Auckland Regional Charitable Hospital. A Canadian by birth, Tristan completed his medical and surgical degrees in South Africa, before taking up advanced postgraduate fellowships in North America at Emory University’s affiliated hospitals in Atlanta and at the Hospital for Sick Children in downtown Toronto. At Emory, he helped to develop and teach endoscopic techniques for facial rejuvenation, techniques Tristan still uses, where possible, to reduce recovery time for his patients. He also trained in the latest techniques for body contouring, micro-surgical reconstruction, paediatric and cranio-facial surgery, and the surgical correction of congenital malformations, such as vascular anomalies, and cleft lip and palate. He has continued to develop his techniques in these surgical specialties during his career, with a strong focus on cleft lip and palate surgery and chest wall reconstruction. Tristan has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters, and received numerous awards and scholarships testifying to his experience and technical skills. When time allows, he reads, writes and tinkers in his shed. He also enjoys family activities with his wife and two children. Contact information: Tel: 09 522 0652
