Jim specialises in Robotically-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery. He has published on robotic surgery and written an electronic manual on robotic prostatectomy while also developing content and lecturing on courses for surgeons transitioning to robotic surgery.
Jim graduated from Otago University with a MBChB, and completed a fellowship in Complex Pelvic Cancer Surgery and Robotic Surgery at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. With a deep commitment to sharing the benefits of robotically-assisted surgery, he completed more than a hundred robotic surgeries in under a year. He has also developed the training package required for nurses to become a robotic surgical assistant.

He acts as Medical Advisor to the Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ and Testicular Cancer NZ and is a regular contributor to NZ Doctor magazine. He also has an interest in kidney cancer and kidney stones, and is the lead author of the Cochrane Review on botulinum toxin for over active bladder.

Jim has a special interest in e-medicine initiatives. He has developed two free smartphone apps for prostate cancer patients, and consults on website design, interface, and content for health related websites. He is active in social media, and moderates the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s electronic news feed. He is also a blogger for The European Medical Journal, and The British Journal of Urology International.

Jim holds clinics at Suite 7, Promed House, Tauranga.
 
Jim lives in Tauranga with his wife and three children. He is a music enthusiast who loves to pick out Mark Knopfler songs on his Fender Stratocaster guitar.
